It's Pioneer Day today. We haven't done anything to celebrate, but we are going to talk about our pioneer ancestors and whatnot tonight. If we were out west, we'd be going to a parade and such, but not here.
Meanwhile, we've been getting ready for school. I'm registered for a couple of online college courses. We have most of the kids school stuff purchased, and we're waiting to hear about teacher assignments. Taylor and Daniel will be at the primary school again this year, and Thaddeus and Blayne will be at the elementary school. Troy was at a meeting and they were talking about restructuring the way the elementary kids go to class. Basically, it's going to be more like middle and high school, and the teachers will only teach specific subjects. Of course, we don't know for sure, but that's what they were planning on implementing. I kinda think it will be good, because the kids will have to get up and move around between classes, and the teachers should be fairly knowledgeable / passionate about their subjects. (You know, ideally and all)
Of course, I have to fill out paperwork en mass every school year, and this year is no exception. Today I'm filling out my school loan deferment papers, because, you know, I'm still IN school. Plus, the community college I registered for, doesn't work with federal student loans. So I dropped my classes from that campus, and moved to one of their larger ones. (Not that I'm going to actually go to campus. I live to far away from everything. I'm doing distance learning this semester.) At any rate, I now have registered at the right place, and I'm waiting for all the financial aid stuff to come through.
I also applied for a couple of part time jobs around the area. Nothing big or grand or anything, just something to get me out of the house a couple of days a week. Turns out, I'm not a very good hermit. The tough thing is that I *do* kinda live in the middle of nowhere, so there's not a whole lot of options. Plus I haven't worked at a regular job for the last nine years or so, so that's fun.
The girls made cupcake today. They wanted something sweet, and I handed them a box of cake mix, and then they got right to it. All I had to do was put the cupcakes in the oven, then take them out again. I really like having people that are old enough to read and follow directions and clean up after themselves.
We've also started the countdown to have Thaddeus back. He gets home next Saturday, and we can't wait. The kids miss him a lot and talk about him every day. They make sure to pray for him and everything, it's pretty cute. He'll be flying in with Grandma and Grandpa Bingham, who will be staying with us for a few days. We have no big plans to do anything other than hang our and enjoy each other's company.
10 more days!
